🧵 About QuiltingCompare
The story behind the site — and the shop hop that started it all.
I built the tool I couldn't find.
I love to shop hop. If there's a quilt shop within reasonable driving distance of Loudoun County, Virginia, I've probably been to it — or I'm planning to go. And like every quilter who's ever stood in a shop, phone in hand, debating whether to buy the batting here or wait and check Amazon, I've lost hours of my life to this exact problem.
The thing is, out here in the Virginia countryside, you're often working with two bars of signal and limited patience. Opening three browser tabs, scrolling through product pages, hunting down the size you actually need, and then trying to remember what you saw on the first page — it's exhausting. And it's not what I came to the quilt shop to do.
So I built QuiltingCompare.com. One page per batting type. All five brands, all three retailers, all sizes, all prices — right there. The whole comparison in the time it takes you to find your reading glasses.
A little about me.
By day I'm a data and business intelligence developer. I'm not great at sitting still, but I'm very good at making data work for people who need it.
Quilting is where I go when I'm done being in front of a screen. The irony of building a price comparison website to serve that escape is not lost on me.
QuiltingCompare.com runs on affiliate commissions. When you click a price and buy something, we earn a small percentage from the retailer. You pay the same price you'd pay going direct — it costs you nothing. That's the whole model, and it's enough to keep the lights on, the prices updated, and the newsletter running.
I don't take money from batting brands to feature their products. I don't run display ads. I don't have a premium tier. The comparison tables are the same for everyone, and what you see is what it actually costs.
Thank you for being here.
If this site has ever saved you money, or saved you fifteen minutes of phone-scrolling in a quilt shop parking lot — that's everything I built it for. Sign up for the Wednesday newsletter if you want to stay in touch, and click our links when you buy batting. It's the most direct way to say thanks.
